Why do we need a school counselor
COUNSELOR'S ROLE
Counselors role is to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to provide students with the support they need to be successful.
GUIDANCE CURRICULUM
Mindfulness, Growth Mindset, Positive Character Traits, and Kelso's Choices are being implemented campus wide to reinforce positive attitudes and choices. Guidance curriculum consist of lessons that teach life skills such as:
- Personal Safety
- Problem-solving
- Character trait development
- Decision-making
- Self-confidence
- Career awareness activities
- Transitioning Successfully
- Tolerance
- Coping Skills (mindfulness, yoga, deep breathing)
- Growth Mindset (positive self-talk)
Why Early childhood School Counselors?
Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.
